Statement

My pictures are always about reasons for living. Whether they show dreams, certainties, realities, fantasies, they have one thing in common: how to keep going in a world that has become increasingly detached from any concept of spontaneous delight. Themes that interest me include the act of hermitage, necessary engagement, and the hypocrisy of presented beauty.

Media: photography (film and digital), painting, drawing, collage, ceramics.

Biographical Note

I am lucky enough to have had a broad and amusing education: (child, climber, mountaineer, factory-worker, tramp, lover, poet, novelist, luthier, musician, painter, labourer, conservator, abseiling-medieval-sculpture-conservator, businessman, father, etc...).

Quote from a dear friend: "For someone who is a deterministic-nihilist-pragmatist David has a remarkable ability to capture life. His pictures are beautiful and full of meaning and love, even if the man himself likes to come across as a sour old bastard."
